Lentils were first grown in southwest Asia, Southeast Turkey, North Iraq. The world production is about 3.500.000 mt., India and Turkey are being the major producer.

Red whole lentils : are sold mostly with 3 pct. impurities and max 12 pct moisture.In special requests of 0.5 impurity also demanded.
Red split lentils : Each lentil splitted into equal halves. machine cleaned qualities of 0.5 + 0.5, 1+1, 2+2 are available ( Impurities + unhusked granis ) or sortexed qualities of 0.1 + 0.1 Moisture : 12 pct max Foreign matter : ( 0.5 to 1 pct )
Green lentils : Foreign matter : 0.02 Moisture : max 14 pct. Broken / Split : max 1 pct Heated Stains rotted : max 2 pct
